The Cinnibar Island Method
(There are other methods, but this one's easiest)
What you’ll need
Go to Viridian City and talk to the Old Man who blocks your path at the beginning of the game. When he asks if you’re busy, say “NO”. After you watch him catch Weedle, Fly (or Surf) to Cinnibar Island and go to the east end of the island. There you can Surf half on land, half in the water. If you wish, you may use a Repel to make sure you only get attacked by Pokemon higher leveled than the Pokemon in your first slot. If you have a level 100 in the first slot, only glitch Pokemon will attack.
You will encounter either:
(The battle loading time for glitch Pokemon takes longer than normal encounters)
Upon seeing a glitch Pokemon, your graphics will look distorted and messed up. DO NOT PANIC, this is normal and is only temporary. You can either simply encounter MissingNo and run, or you can catch it (it’s hard, but doable). Making it fall asleep or paralyzing it, like any other Pokemon, will make it easier to catch.
*Meaning no bike, map, PokeFlute, etc. can be in that slot or the game will crash. Masterballs, gold nuggets and basically any item with a number saying how much of it you have will work.
**Only if you plan on catching MissingNo. If MissingNo goes into your PC at anytime after you catch it, it will turn into a glitch Rhydon.
- A Pokemon with Surf
- Access to Cinnibar Island
- *An item in your 6th slot that can be obtained more than once
- **An empty slot in your party

You will encounter either:
- MissingNo
- ‘M (similar to MissingNo, but not what we want, don’t catch him)
- Glitch Pokemon that is the level you picked when you made your name. Could also be level 80
- Normal Pokemon at the level of the last Tall Grass (or water or Safari Zone) you were in

If you choose to catch MissingNo I suggest reading about Unstable Glitch Pokemon.
